Simple heart shaped leaves, and a springtime flower. There are a ton of different types of violets. Know and research your plants with a plant identification guide. Violets can be found in woodlands, prairies and backyards. Very high in vitamin C. Supports liver, gallbladder, digestive, lymphatic and urinary symptoms. Pick during flowering. The photo above was taken in my backyard. You can use the leaves and/or flowers. You can use these beautiful plants for short or long infusions, compresses, infused oils and tinctures. Violet uses can be antipyretic (root), expectorant, emollient, mucilaginous and many other uses. Violet is cooling and moistening and can be a great lymphatic stimulant. It can also be taken as a tea or syrup, and can also be eaten for its medicine. As a gentle food herb, violet is generally safe for anyone.
I like violet as a expectorant, expectorant herbs aid in the removal of mucus from the lungs and soothe bronchial issues. Expectorant herbs are helpful for dry and irritating non productive coughs. Do your own research, get in your backyard and go exploring. We have an abundance of medicinal herbs just waiting to be understood. Remember to know your plants and do your own research on uses. Also, when harvesting any plant you need to be at least 50 feet away from any areas that may have been sprayed with chemicals, whether that is a field or your neighbors yard that has been sprayed. Enjoy.
